With numerous historic journals and manuscripts, as well as more than 4.‍5 million books, Trinity College Library is the largest in Ireland and grows larger every day. As a copyright library, since 1800 it has held the right to a deposit copy of every book printed in the United Kingdom and Ireland. If you’re visiting Dublin, you should definitely go and see the Long Room, built in 1732, and learn more about Ireland’s history.

Whether J. K. Rowling really took inspiration from the Livraria Lello for her Harry Potter novels remains her secret. One thing is certain, the author was a regular customer at no. 144, Rua das Carmelitas. As so many visitors now want to see this beautiful bookshop in Porto, today the owners charge for admission – but this is refunded if you buy a book.

New Haven: where marble prevents deterioration.

On Yale University Campus, between Boston and New York, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library is the place for special books. To protect the delicate copies of rare, early books from damaging direct sunlight, the exterior of the library is made from translucent Vermont Danby marble. The result: indirect light and the best conditions for housing, for example, a Gutenberg Bible.
