The hotel was built in the 50s and is influenced by the spirit of the time. Films like “Roman holiday” and “Three coins in the fountain” were a big hit on the continent and wealthy families’ attentions were subsequently turned to Italy and La Dolce Vita.
Giuseppe Cipriani, the owner of Harry’s Bar, wanted to build a luxury hotel in Venice near Markus Square, which was at the same time peaceful and sheltered from the mass of tourists. The solution presented itself on the island of Giudecca, a five-minute boat ride from Markus Square.
The result is an outstanding example of a world-class hotel that we here at BusinessClass can highly recommend. The hotel almost competes with Venice itself as a destination in its own right. If you are a fan of great hotels, old-school luxury and a dose of glamour, a visit to Belmond Hotel Cipriani should definitely be on your bucket list.
Location:
The hotel is idyllically situated on a small island not far from Markus Square. The hotel’s charming boats provide regular transport with frequent departures between Markus Square and the hotel. The boat ride takes only 5 minutes and drops you right at the hotel, which in turn becomes a quiet oasis just outside the city’s lively tourist areas.
Rooms:
Belmond Hotel Cipriani has 42 rooms, 26 junior suites and 16 suites. We have tried a number of rooms and the more generous junior suites, the latter of which are absolutely amazing. Rooms are decorated in Venetian style with expensive fabrics and beautiful antiques. The bathrooms are luxurious, often in marble. Some rooms overlook the canal, others face the garden. The suites are lavish and offer amenities such as furnished terraces with views of the lagoon, or private gardens with seating areas. All are spacious and individually furnished and offer the service of a private butler if desired.
Style:
Belmond Hotel Cipriani has the ultimate combination of old world style and comfort. The place has an airy, modern and classic atmosphere. Bountiful gardens, Venice’s largest swimming pool, sumptuous fabrics and plush furnishings. Everything testifies that this is a hotel for quality conscious guests.
Food:
Belmond Cipriani has 2 restaurants. Le Cips Club is a casual establishment where you can enjoy local Venetian dishes, preferably al fresco if weather permits. We’ve enjoyed plenty of lovely classic Venetian dishes here accompanied by good wines. Take your time and enjoy views of the lagoon and the historic buildings of Venice. Restaurant ORO is more formal. It has been beautifully decorated by the famous architect Adam T Tiphany and has a Michelin star. We look back on our visits here with good memories – the superb presentation of wonderful food, divine truffles, and Barolo from 1996.
After the food, you can move into the bar and try a tequila from George Clooney’s own brand – George is a regular guest at the hotel. The poolside snack bar offers simple dishes and is perfect if you want a tasty snack and do not want to move too far from your sun bed.
