Only a five-minute drive from the Grand-Hôtel, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a jewel of the French Riviera. The magnificent mansion is the former home of Baroness Beatrice de Rothschild, daughter of banker and art collector Alphonse de Rothschild. Enchanted by the area’s natural beauty, in 1905 the Baroness commissioned the construction of her dream home at Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, with building works taking seven years to complete. An avid art collector like her father, she furnished the Renaissance-style Villa with sumptuous works of art and priceless antiques, including a Tiepolo ceiling, a games table that once belonged to Marie Antoinette, and a rug commissioned by Louis XIV. The Villa was designated a historic and cultural monument in 1996.

The Grand-Hôtel has launched a package that offers guests the unique opportunity to admire the private collections of Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild and discover the beauty of the Villa’s magnificent gardens. Guests will enjoy exclusive private access to the Villa for three hours and 30 minutes, with a guided tour that takes in the building’s distinctive architectural features and rare works of art by French painters such as René Dubois, Jean-Honoré Fragonard and François Boucher. Expert guides will reveal fascinating stories behind the objects on display, shedding light on early 20th century life. Guests will have exclusive access to the Villa when it is closed to the general public, giving them the unique opportunity to explore the interiors in complete privacy and at their own pace.

Following the guided tour, guests will enjoy a bespoke picnic in the Villa’s garden. Presented by a personal butler and created by Michelin-starred Chef Yoric Tièche, the picnic is prepared using fresh local ingredients, with dishes changing with the seasons. Among the specialties that may feature are fine charcuterie, local farm cheeses, fine Italian antipasti, lobster salads, blinis with smoked salmon and Provençal fougasse bread with extra virgin olive oil. To round off the meal, guests will enjoy sweet homemade treats by Florent Margaillan.

Designed in the shape of a ship’s deck and flanked by the glistening Mediterranean sea on both sides, the garden is adorned with impressive architectural elements including large Italian Renaissance urns and ornamental ponds. Guests will enjoy the Chef’s exclusive picnic surrounded by fragrant essences of ancient roses and rare exotic plant species on the lawn of the jardin à la française. Comfortably seated on plush cushions on the Villa’s pristine lawn, guests will be able to take in a spectacular show of musical fountains while enjoying lovely sea views and soaking up the timeless elegance of one of the Riviera’s most romantic sights.
