1) Is it correct that no one-way rentals are covered?
I see from the policy document:
"You are not covered for any claim
a) if your car rental agreement is a one way rental."
WWI svar:
"The specific exclusion is regarding section 6, drop off charges only. Please see the clause below. One ways are allowed and the car is insured if it gets damaged during the hire period.
Section 6
Drop off charges
Applicable to Deluxe Cover only.
You are covered up to the amount shown in the benefits schedule for any drop off charges you incur through the car rental company in the event of there being no one on the car rental agreement available to return the rental vehicle to the originally intended car rental station following an accident/illness.You are not covered for any claima) if your car rental agreement is a one way rental.b) unless you can provide written evidence from a doctor or hospital toconfirm the reason for your inability to drive the rental vehicle. Please also refer to the general conditions and exclusions that apply to the whole policy"
"2) How about commercial car rental/sharing/pool companies which operate as 'free floating' car pools/car sharing? Are these types of rentals covered?
For example, in Germany I usually use ShareNow (
Your Future Car Rental | SHARE NOW International) and in Sweden Aimo (
aimo | Gets you there). I guess they are similar to e.g. ZipCar in the UK (
Zipcar Flex - one-way car sharing | Zipcar).
I see in the Policy document:
"Car Club means a commercial operation in business to allow paid-up
members members to rent and use a vehicle that is owned by the Club on an hourly
or daily basis. This does not include privately owned vehicles made available
as part of a car-pooling or car sharing or similar arrangement."
Aimo, ShareNow and ZipCar are a kind of Car Club but there is
no fixed fee. Only fee based on usage time.
Or are these types of car sharing businesses counted as regular Car Rental Companies?
"Car Rental Company means a commercial operation in business to rent out
vehicles that is fully licensed, where applicable, by the regulatory authority
of that country, state or local authority"
And if these car sharing businesses count as regular Car Rental Companies, how does it pertain to one way rentals? Since one way rentals are not covered? You almost never use them to drive back to the same place within the city area which is covered. "
WWI svar:
"I am pleased to confirm that car sharing companies such as Mobility or Zipcars are insured as they own and maintain their own vehicles. Car sharing companies where individuals allow their privately owned cars to be rented via a central booking system are not insured. The yearly rental subscription must also show clearly a excess damage matrix, what you are held liable for in the event of the vehicle being damaged."
pull the trigger.
