Last week, we introduced our readers to the new “super boutique hotel”, The Londoner, which will open late 2020 in London. Across the Atlantic Ocean, there are other exceptional hotels which we can look forward to opening this year. One of them is Aman New York, which will be located in the heart of Manhattan.

It is not every day the hotel group Aman opens new hotels. Currently, the company has 32 hotels and private homes in over 20 countries. Including two hotels in the US, Amangani in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Amangiri State in Utah. This is set to change, as the hotel group has ambitions to grow to 40 hotels in 22 countries in the near future. The Crown Building – which has previously housed the Museum of Modern Art – is transforming into the hotel group’s flagship hotel, Aman New York. This hotel will be a stone’s throw away from Central Park, in the corner of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street.

The hotel will have 83 rooms and 22 exclusive private homes, three restaurants, a Jazz club and a spa. In addition, there will be a 650 sqm garden terrace overlooking Central Park.

The hotel is designed by the architect Jean-Michel Gathy, who is also behind the design of several hotels from numerous luxury hotel brands, such as One&Only and Mandarin Oriental. The design of the hotel reflects Aman’s commitment to creating luxurious havens of space and seclusion while paying tribute to the building’s architecture and its important history. The guests’ first encounter will be the dramatic two-storey Sky Lobby, which features Asian influences in tribute to the company’s Asian roots. The hotel’s crown jewel is the 1300 sqm penthouse, which covers five floors.

Aman New York’s guest rooms start at 69 sqm upwards, which is generous considering the location. Soothing colours, functioning fireplace in every room, and hues of innovative lighting are intended to create a peaceful and undisturbed haven for guests.

Aman is renowned for its wellness facilities. The hotel’s spa extends three floors, unusually large considering the urban location. This will be a haven for those seeking an escape from the busy city life. The spa experience is set to be exceptional, as it encompasses double treatment rooms, saunas and steam rooms, outdoor terraces with cabanas and a 20-metre indoor swimming pool.

Other highlights are the culinary offerings. The Arva, will be an Italian restaurant. While Nama will be Aman’s interpretation of the Japanese washoku dining tradition. Among many other things, there will also be a Cigar Lounge and a Wine Library.

For anyone interested in booking a stay at Aman New York, there is not a publicly announced opening date at this moment. However, keep an eye, as the hotel is still scheduled to open by the end of 2020.
