Mandarin Oriental has unveiled plans for its second hotel in London. To be located on posh Hanover Square in the West End, the new luxury property will complement the group’s well-established Knightsbridge property.
Conveniently situated within strolling distance of both Oxford Street and Regent Street, the hotel will also be opposite the soon-to-open Bond Street Crossrail station, granting guests of the hotel easy access to the rest of London.
The hotel is being developed by Clivedale London and designed by London-based architectural firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, with a view to open in 2021.
Billed by Mandarin Oriental as “an intimate, boutique property,” the hotel will feature just 50 guestrooms and suites, as well as 80 private residences located on the upper floors.
There will also be a “vibrant” fine-dining restaurant, a lobby lounge, a stylish bar area and a private roof terrace with bar overlooking Mayfair.
The Residences at Mandarin Oriental are set to become some of the most exclusive private homes in the city. Owners will enjoy direct access to the hotel and its facilities, which will include an indoor pool, an extensive fitness centre and an intimate spa.
“We are delighted to be opening a second Mandarin Oriental property in London, and look forward to extending the group’s legendary hospitality to another of the city’s most exclusive addresses,” said James Riley, Group Chief Executive of Mandarin Oriental.
“Operating two complementary hotels in a single destination is something that the Group has already done successfully in Hong Kong.”
The hotel’s sister property in Knightsbridge, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, is currently undergoing its first major renovation project since opening in 2000. By Spring, the first phase – consisting of upgrades to guestrooms, the Rosebery coffee lounge and Bar Boulud restaurant – is set to be revealed.
