Bangkok is not short of great restaurants. It’s not short of Michelin starred restaurants now, either, after the release of the city’s first Michelin Guide.

The prestigious French guide by Michelin has listed what it considers to be the best restaurants in the city. It features 98 restaurants and awards a total of 20 stars between 17 establishments.

The best restaurants in Bangkok

Three restaurants were recognised with two stars, including Indian restaurant Gaggan, run by chef Gaggan Anand; Le Normandie, which has been at the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok since 1958; and Mezzaluna, a European restaurant located on the 65th floor of the Lebua Hotel.

14 restaurants have been awarded one Michelin star: these include Nahm at COMO Metropolitan Bangkok, Chim by Siam Wisdom, Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin, and traditional street food vendor Jay Fai.

Thai cuisine

A total of 28 street food stalls were included in the Michelin Guide 2018, but only one made it to the Michelin star list — Jay Fai. Seven of the total 17 Michelin-starred restaurants serve Thai cuisine.

Renowned as a street food destination, Bangkok – the seventh Asian country to have a Michelin Guide – now officially ranks alongside the likes Tokyo, Singapore and Hong Kong for its culinary offerings. Keep an eye out for future guides to other popular areas of Thailand, including Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hua Hin.
