British Airways has unveiled a luxurious new lounge in Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.

The new lounge is the first lounge to open part of the airline’s £4.5bn investment to benefit its customers, which is first manifesting in a revamp of its network of lounges.

The lounge features a new design concept that BA describes as “the very best of British and European design and delivering a luxurious and contemporary look and feel.”

Spread over 460 square metres, the lounge can comfortably host nearly 140 customers. It also features a number of zones that create separate spaces for customers to work or relax in ahead of their flight.

The centrepiece of the lounge is a granite-topped feature bar, with bespoke lighting and comfortable low seating. During peak times the bar will be hosted by a mixologist, while in quieter periods, you can help yourself from a wide range of beverages.

The lounge also features high windows that allow natural light to flow in and offer fantastic views across the runway. These windows feature ‘smart’ electronic blinds that are programmed to react to light and heat throughout the day, ensuring that the lounge is always a comfortable environment.

The lounge features marble tables, textured wall décor and artwork from the airline’s collection, the majority of which is by English artist Patrick Caulfield. There is also power and USB points throughout the lounge, as well as wireless printing.

The next lounges to be unveiled with the airline’s new look will be at New York’s JFK Terminal 7. A new lounge will also be opening in Aberdeen later this year and further investment is then planned in Geneva, San Francisco, Johannesburg and Chicago.
